Areas of focus

How Kelvin can help

Counselling support for a wide range of life’s challenges — for individuals, couples, families, and young people.

Individuals

Anxiety & Stress

Learn to quiet the noise, manage worry, and reclaim a sense of calm in daily life.

Anxiety and stress are experienced in both the mind, through negative thinking, and in the body, through various distressing physical symptoms. Even when we recognize that anxiety is irrational, this often does not stop us from imagining what could go wrong or from experiencing panic. Over time, anxiety and stress can contribute to burnout. Counselling can provide tools to manage symptoms while also exploring and addressing underlying causes.

Connection

Relationships

Strengthen connection, improve communication, and navigate the complexities of close relationships.

Our relationships with important people—partners, family members, and friends—add richness to our lives. However, when disconnection and unresolved conflict are present, this can become a heavy burden carried across many areas of life. Counselling offers an opportunity to explore relationship challenges, develop tools for more effective communication, and move forward in a way that is consistent with your values.

Depression & Burnout

Find your way back to meaning and energy when life feels heavy or flat.

Low mood, reduced energy, despair, and hopelessness are symptoms of depression that can be deeply debilitating. This is more than simply being pessimistic; it often includes a profound sense of heaviness that can also be felt physically, including difficulty initiating daily tasks. People experiencing depression often become isolated and may feel as though they have lost touch with themselves. Counselling can help you understand what lies beneath these experiences and develop practical ways to cope that support a gradual lifting of heaviness.

Individuals

Men’s Mental Health

A safe space for men to explore emotions, purpose, and challenges without judgment.

While gender roles have evolved, many men still operate under unspoken expectations that they must be strong, handle things independently, avoid emotional expression, and define their worth through work or achievement. For many, counselling is a last resort, yet it can offer a space to normalize challenges, develop emotional awareness, and strengthen communication in relationships. Counselling can also support men in learning to identify, express, and respond to emotions in healthier ways.

Anger

Understand what drives anger and develop healthier ways to respond under pressure.

Anger is a natural emotion that arises when we perceive injustice or when boundaries have been violated. However, explosive or uncontrolled expressions of anger can harm those around us, particularly those we love. At times, anger can also function as a secondary emotion, masking more vulnerable feelings such as fear, sadness, or shame. In counselling, you will explore what your anger is communicating and develop more effective ways of expressing underlying emotions and responding to difficult situations.

Addictions

Compassionate support for those working toward lasting change and recovery.

Addiction may be present when substances or behaviours are used in ways that feel difficult to control, despite negative impacts on relationships, responsibilities, or life goals. Counselling can help you develop tools to begin managing the addiction, while also exploring the underlying factors that contribute to it. The focus is on supporting meaningful and sustainable change.

Change

Life Transitions and Grief

Navigate change—career shifts, loss, and major life decisions—with greater clarity and support.

Whether the change in your circumstances was expected or unexpected, life transitions can bring uncertainty, grief, and a deep sense of disorientation. This may include the loss of a loved one, as well as other significant changes in your life. Even positive changes—such as retirement or new beginnings—can involve loss of identity, routine, or connection. Other transitions may include relationship endings, job changes, or shifts in health. Counselling provides a space to slow down, process what has been lost, and gently explore what comes next at your own pace.

Young people

Teens

Support for adolescents navigating identity, school stress, and the pressure of growing up.

Sometimes it can be difficult to be a teenager, and it can also feel challenging to open up to a new person. I recognize this and prioritize building a genuine connection where teens feel heard, understood, and supported as they develop the confidence and skills to navigate life’s challenges in ways that feel right for them. Counselling offers a supportive, non-judgmental space to be yourself and talk openly about what is going on in your life. Together, we will explore challenges such as anxiety, stress, friendships, family relationships, self-esteem, and life transitions, while also building a deeper understanding of your emotions, experiences, and strengths.

Young people

Children 7+

Child-friendly approaches to help younger clients feel safe, heard, and understood.

When working with children, I focus on building a strong, attuned relationship from the very beginning. Through play, conversation, creativity, and nervous-system-informed approaches, I help children better understand their emotions, strengthen regulation skills, and navigate common challenges such as anxiety, emotional outbursts, self-esteem concerns, family changes, school stress, and social difficulties.

Couples

Rebuild trust, deepen intimacy, and create a partnership that truly works for both of you.

I work with couples using approaches informed by Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and the Gottman Method, both of which focus on strengthening emotional connection and improving communication. In our work together, we explore patterns that contribute to distance or conflict and support each partner in understanding both their own needs and their partner’s experience. My aim is to help couples rebuild trust, deepen emotional safety, and create a relationship that feels more connected, responsive, and resilient.

The work

Counselling approaches

Kelvin draws on evidence-based modalities, tailoring each to the person in front of him.

01

Person-Centred Therapy

Rooted in unconditional positive regard, this approach trusts that you already carry the capacity for growth. Kelvin's role is to create a warm, non-judgmental space where your own insight can emerge.

02

Narrative Therapy

We all live by stories about ourselves. Narrative therapy helps you examine those stories, separate them from the challenges you face, and author a richer account of who you are and who you want to become.

03

Mindfulness-Based Approaches

Mindfulness practices bring gentle attention to present-moment experience — reducing reactivity, building self-compassion, and helping you respond to life's difficulties with greater steadiness.

04

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT explores the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. Together, we identify unhelpful thinking patterns and replace them with perspectives that open up new possibilities.

05

Existential Therapy

Existential therapy invites you to explore the deeper questions of meaning, freedom, and responsibility that shape how you live. It's a space to confront life's uncertainties honestly and move toward a more deliberate, authentic way of being.

06

Synergistic Play Therapy (children 7+)

Play therapy gives children a natural language to express feelings and experiences they may not yet have words for. This integrative, synergistic approach meets children where they are — making it especially well suited to those roughly seven and up.
